Our commitment to the future
The LYCRA Company’s Manufacturing Excellence initiatives are focused on four key areas:
- Energy & Emissions Reduction
- Water Conservation
- Waste Reduction
- Benchmarking our Progress
- Energy & Emissions Reduction:
We continue to work on de-carbonizing our footprint, with a goal to reduce our combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030. This will be achieved by converting the purchased energy at our sites to renewable sources and moving power generated on site to lower impact alternatives.
- Water Conservation:
Each of our sites has individual water reduction goals. At our Tuas site in Singapore and our Monterrey site in Mexico, we reduced plant operation water usage by more than 20% since 2013 and have an overall goal to reduce it by more than an additional 10%.
- Waste Reduction:
We have instituted waste reduction efforts across our business with a goal to divert 100% of LYCRA® fiber waste to beneficial uses by 2030 and reduce overall waste by 40%. Read about our manufacturing excellence goals.
BENCHMARKING THROUGH THE HIGG FACILITY ENVIRONMENTAL MODULE (FEM)
Six LYCRA® fiber manufacturing sites have completed the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) that assesses the environmental impact of each facility. This robust assessment establishes an environmental baseline so each site can work towards continuous improvement in key areas: environmental management systems, energy use, emissions, water usage, wastewater, and waste and chemical management.
Six sites also completed Higg FEM verification in 2024 and will do so in 2025. These third- party reviews confirm the accuracy of the data in the self-assessments. Participating sites include Foshan, China; Monterrey, Mexico; Waynesboro, Virginia; Maydown, Northern Ireland, Tuas, Singapore, and Paulinia, Brazil. Copies of the completion certificates for self-assessments and verifications can be accessed here:
Higg Facility Social & Labor Module Verifications
The Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (FSLM) provides insights into social progress and labor conditions at each site, including compensation, health and safety, and identifies areas for continuous improvement. Our Tuas, Singapore, and Maydown, Northern Ireland sites both had their self-assessments verified and scored in the top quartile. The LYCRA Company’s goal is to have sites representing 80% of LYCRA® fiber production verified on Higg FSLM by 2025.
